Thai Tandoori Chicken (Grilled Chicken)
We came across this Grilled Chicken stall along the way to Pattalung, Southern Thailand. It looks liked they are grilled in the style a Tandoori chicken is done.
We bought a chicken to try out, it tasted like the Indian Tandoori Chicken, except that the average Indian Tandoori chicken tend to be a little dry. The chicken sold by this lady is juicier and more tender. It only costs THB 180 which is only about S$8 (approx USD6).
The method of grilling is similar to the tandoori chicken.Though they use an earthen urn, the urn are slightly different. This looks like a standard flower pot, whereas the real Tandoori chicken are grilled in a earthen urn, or what they called a tandoori!!
I doubt they can stick a naan ( Indian bread) on the side of this urn. I think the fire or the heat inside this urn is also much lower than the average tandoori urn. This probably is the reason why the chicken is juicier.
This lady runs the stall along the roadside and for the price, they include a big packet of rice which I think will be enough for four people. We did not take the rice. The place looks clean, I did not see any flying insects and the chicken were displayed in an enclosed glass cabinet.
Yummy, I should have bought another chicken before we drove off.
